Short answer

The Auditing module of the Alberta NCSO exam covers the COR audit process, sampling methods, scoring, documentation review, interviews and observation. What the Auditing module covers

On the Alberta NCSO exam, Auditing covers the COR audit process, sampling methods, scoring, documentation review, interviews and observation. It is one of ten modules, and the exam draws across all of them — which is why candidates who are strong on site but narrow in coverage still fail.

Where candidates lose marks. Auditing is the module most candidates have the least hands-on exposure to before they sit the exam.

Why

An audit is systematic, documented, and measures against standards. It answers: 'Is our program doing what it's supposed to do?' It evaluates the management system - not just physical conditions. Audits lead to COR certification.

What does COR stand for and what does it represent?

  1. Compliance on Record - documentation of government audit results
  2. Construction Operations Review - annual safety report
  3. Certificate of Registration - legal business registration
  4. Certificate of Recognition - accreditation that an employer's HSMS meets a recognized national standard correct
Why

COR (Certificate of Recognition) is issued when a certified external auditor confirms an employer's HSMS meets the national standard. COR is required to bid on major construction projects in Alberta and other provinces.

COR audit evidence is collected through three methods. What are they?

  1. Government records, injury statistics, and insurance claims
  2. Financial records, training logs, and equipment inspection reports
  3. Photographs, measurements, and chemical testing
  4. Document review, worker interviews, and field observations correct
Why

COR auditors use three evidence streams: (1) DOCUMENT REVIEW (policies, procedures, training records, inspection logs), (2) WORKER INTERVIEWS (do workers know and follow the program?), (3) FIELD OBSERVATIONS (is the program being practiced on the ground?). All three are required for a valid audit.

How to study this module

  1. Answer before you read. Cover the options and try to produce the answer from memory. Recognition feels like knowledge and collapses under exam pressure.
  2. Space your review. Come back to missed questions after a day, then three days, then a week. NCSO Prep schedules this automatically.
